Qualifications for Designer Level:

Junior Design: What is the design outcome.

Senior Designer: Impact on the product features, what feature did you introduce and successfully improve the product.

Staff Designer: Is there any product or sub-product you delegate, help the organization allocate fundings and arrange resource worked on it. What is the scope and impact.

Design Presentation

  • Two Focuses: Problem + Solution
  • Does the solution reasonably address the problem.

What is the problem: business goal + user goal

Business Goal: Increase the DAU, Number of visit, length of stay etc.

Organization Goal: Enhance usability, positive brand image.

User goal: being able to achieve certain task

Presentation Style (Story telling):

  • How are little solutions combined together to solve a greater problem. E.g. current legacy system with obsolete UX. then 1. redesign the navigation to establish new mental mapping fitting organization’s future roadmap, 2. Develop the new visual language 3. Evolve the page layout and interaction pattern to optimize display.
  • Wearing different hat to voice user profiles
  • Scope Impact: “I created the marketplace page” vs “In storage industry, a lot of our customers get introduced to our product through their connected sales partners, However, the partner’s quote amount remain obscure as high margins were charged. Opening the possibility to shop for our product directly through the platform and place online quote and orders from within.” As a result, we added this marketplace page to our product. To make a comprehensive shopping experience, quote and orders feature were brought up.
  • What if the current corp UI looks sucks? — Redesign everything and present
  • What if for all sort of reasons, the final implementation was minimal, insufficient to showcase the design outcome? — Show a “future design” presenting the product vision and design strategy, then present the MVP to reflect the recent effort

Topics to Prepare

  • Accessibility: Screen reader, keyboard navigation, visual contrast, mobile touch area (refer to the iOS and material guideline)
  • Localization: language, spacing, orientation, user behavior difference and UI permutations on different countries

Success Criteria:

  • Metrics showing the feature impact
  • Gorilla testing | hall way testing etc.
  • Customer Quote
  • Blog Post, Business Announcement, Release etc.
